A Terrible Garden Blogger

A coral passion vine flower

I’m a terrible garden blogger. A good blog (the word comes from the words “web log”) is an account of happenings or thoughts of the person writing the blog. I ordinarily sit down once a week and write an article for my garden blog, rather than an actual blog. I am more comfortable writing on a topic and presenting it in a “teacherly” manner. I’m going to work on changing that.

My favorite blog, and one I go to regularly, is Chickens on the Porch. Callie, the author, makes an entry every day about the happenings in her life. She does research on topics such as: cooking on a wood stove, building nest boxes, sewing quilts, the weather. She provides lots of links where you can find information. I’ve learned a lot from following the links in her post.

I keep saying that I’m going to try to make more entries into my garden blog (notice I didn’t say daily). I’m going to be more spontaneous. I think if I can accomplish this, my readers may find this silly garden blog more interesting to read and I’ll find it more fun to write. So……………………….

I’ve got some blooming vines. This pretty coral passion vine has to be watched or it grows right up into the oak trees growing near the fence. I take cuttings from it each year and have successfully propagate new plants from it. It loves this coastal weather but I’m not sure how it would do in a freeze. Not too well, I’m sure. After I get back from the garden club meeting this morning, I’m going to go out and get some cuttings of that sprawling vine before it gets too out of hand.

This passion vine will take over if allowed.

  1. I love that passion vine. My mother-in-law had one that covered a fence. I never knew the name of the vine, but I never forgot the beautiful flowers.

Thank you very much for the kind words! I’m very glad that you enjoy reading my blog.
I agree with you about the blogger writing down their thoughts as being important.
I started my blog as a daily record of what is happening here so my married daughter and family could keep track of life around here.
I also post about things that interest me. I know for myself I like to read blogs that are about what the blogger is engaged in and I like to read their thoughts. Like you I learn and I appreciate.

I hope you do post more often if that is what you enjoy. When I write my blog I think of blogging as talking and sharing with my daughter and friends.

    Thank you, again!

  2. Hello from South Texas.
I just discovered your blog via Callie at Chickens on the Porch. I am a backyard chicken person and gardener. I love your water collection system. I want to do something like that. I also aspire to become a Master Gardener someday. I will have to wait until I retire for that. I started with 4 chickens(Lucy, Ethel, Aretha, and Oprah) One was taken by a bobcat while we were outside. The second was taken by a raccoon when the coop door was accidentally left open one night. (My run is not covered because of the unusual shape.) More recently, my dog discovered that she likes to kill chickens. She had not bothered them in the past. Now I have 3 left. (Blossom, Lily, and Holly) I am pestering the local feed stores each day, checking to see if they have received a shipment of pullets! I want Americauna, Aracuana, and Plymouth Rock or Dominique. My problem is our feed stores don’t seem to get much variety!
    Blessings,
    Lorilee

  3. Lorilee,
Glad to hear from you. I had to go to three different feed stores to get the six breeds that I had my heart set on but it worked out. I love the breeds that I have but if you can get a Buff Orpington do. They are the sweetest chickens I’ve ever encountered! Best of luck!

  4. Hi Lee,

Thought I would mention that when I click on cambriagardner (when I read my comments)
I am not directed to your blog or profile page.

You may be missing readers because they can’t find you. When you leave comments on other blogs they may not spend time trying to find you.

Go back and read my comments where you left a comment and click on cambriagardner. Maybe it will work for you?

Or maybe you have your setting that way on purpose?

    Have a great week!

    Callie
